Abstract

This essay proposes that in Prohibido robar rosas (2008), Aquí me quedo (2010) and Pol: una aventura en la USAC (2014) the director Rodolfo Espinosa wanders along the tenuous dividing line that separates the limit of entertainment representing crude violence from the perspective of the humor of such situations and stimulates a reflection on the rise in crime that affects Guatemala from a perspective that differs from the works that treat murders, kidnappings and robberies with the usual seriousness. A theoretical framework is used that combines the aesthetic value of the representation of violence in the cinema of Margaret Bruder and those of E. M. Dadlez and Steven Salaita in their study of the relationship between violence and humor.
