Abstract

Far from occupying one of the pages of the Brazilian photo album, the black portrait of our country has been invisible for many centuries. Therefore, this paper aims to bring to light, through Itamar Vieira Júnior's work Arado Torcido (2022), the image of a quilombola reality of the Água Negra estate, elaborated by the extraordinary pen of this Afro-indigenous Bahian writer, who comes out in the open to defend the right to land. All of this, moreover, with attention to our past of slavery, moved by the hope that the same mistakes of history will not be repeated. In this perspective, and through the experience of emblematic characters such as Zeca Sombrero Grande or Severo, among others, a real vehicle for social transformation is born.
