Abstract

This paper presents some considerations on the narrator of Teatro (1998), novel written by Bernardo Carvalho. In order to approach the problem, one of the aspects studied is the tension established between the need to narrate and the difficulties implied in doing so fully and properly. This tension helps to build a fragmentary narrative, full of hesitations and gaps. Among the questions that are brought up by the text, we have selected as essential to our study the limits between truth and fiction and the problem of violence, both related to the specific construction of the narrator in the novel examined.
