Abstract

The objective of this paper is to make a critical analysis of the relationship between individual and society, as expressed by Theodor Adorno in his paper “On the lyrical and society.” This is to show how the philosopher understands the aesthetic realm through the radical negation of the immediate communicative dimension in poetry. We will see how a more substantive universality is achieved through an extreme degree of particularization. In this scenario, it is important to show how the subjectivity is founded on the idea of suffering historically constituted. Our critical contribution will address precisely the way in which the individual is opposed to society so that it seems too one-sided.
