A gift for the future: contemporary dystopia and its intersections with postmodern experience

Abstract

The advent of modernity and the break with the tradition led to a series of transformations, as well as new ways of conceiving the world. The tradition left the scene, but it took all its solidity and the structures that, until then, had kept the world in its course. The results of modernity and everything that we live today integrate this unusual experience which we call postmodernity. In this path of discovery, the literature persists as one of the main means to expose human’s expression and to promote society transformation. Considering the importance of understanding these phenomena, the present article aims to study contemporary dystopian literature as one of the genres that privileges the postmodern experience through its critique and the reflection of the problems of this troubled time, thus we sought theoretical contribution in the works of Bauman (2001), Harvey (2008), Gregory Claeys (2013) (2017), Baccolini e Moylan (2003), Santos (2004) and Debord (2005).
