Abstract

In the introduction to his book Leviathan, Thomas Hobbes draws a precise analogy between bodies, being the State a body politic similar to the natural body. Thus, the State would have an artificial life analogous to the natural one that would allow its own artificial movement. With the rise of neoliberalism in the twentieth century, there is an intensification of the market rules over the political power, which inevitably lead to the rupture with the social contract that guaranteed rights for the entire population. In face of the covid-19 pandemic, we shall return to the Hobbesian analogy between a sick natural body and the disease that afflicts the body politic: the sedition.
