The objective of this article was to measure and analyze the efficiency of credit cooperatives established in the State of Rio Grande do Sul, considering the entities linked with the SICREDI, CRESOL, CREHNOR, UNICRED, and SICOOB systems. As methodology, the DEA (Data Envelopment Analysis) method was applied, based on the information of the financial statements of the financial cooperatives selected for the study. The proposed model presented the efficiency ranking and demonstrated that the average efficiency of the gaucho cooperatives was of 76.32% in the researched period. In 2013, the financial cooperatives presented an average efficiency of 79.20%, the best result among the analyzed periods, where 17 cooperatives obtained 100% of efficiency. In 2014, they obtained an average efficiency of 73.37%, being the worst result among the researched years. When it comes to the efficiency, the results demonstrated a balance among the financial cooperatives established in Rio Grande do Sul, as well as the finding that the efficiency is not associated to the size (total assets) or to the link to a given system.Downloads
