Abstract

Objective: To report the accomplishment of the exercises workshop for the pelvic floor muscles, which aims to promote health education for women through guidelines and exercises for the pelvic floor. Methods: Workshop experience as a strategy for health education for young women, undergraduate and postgraduate students at the Federal University of Santa Maria. The invitation to the participants was made by electronic media, printed and by the e-mails of the course coordinations. The workshop was held weekly, lasting 45 minutes. Sixteen students with a mean age of 21 participated. Pelvic awareness exercises, stretching, strengthening, resistance, coordination of the pelvic floor muscles and orientations were performed. Results: After 15 meetings, participants reported performing exercises more easily, maintaining contractions of the pelvic floor for a longer period of time, and performing them on a day-to-day basis. Conclusions: Addressing health education within women’s health groups is critical for women to know their own body, to empower themselves for self-care and to promote their health.
