This article has as proposal to explore the concept of archive under the perspective of Jacques Derrida, in his "Archive Fever – A Freudian Impression", for the purpose of analysing the Artist's Book by Luiz Henrique Schwanke. Derrida correlates the notion of archive with the (personal and historical) memory, emphasizing the constant tension between maintenance and (conscious or unconscious) opression; and the "archive fever" with its death drive, the deletion of memory, and its possible psychic, social and political consequences. Starting with the work of Schwanke, a series of paintings conformed in a book, art object, an “artist’s book", ponderations will be made about the significance of archiving as a resource of the artist's poetics.
