Humanization in hospital care: perceptions of family caregivers

Abstract

This study aimed to describe family caregivers perception on nursing care given to the hospitalized patients. The following research had a qualitative approach which subjects were family companions of patients hospitalized in a medical and surgical clinic of a public hospital in the countryside of the state of Rio Grande do Sul. The data were collected through a semi-structured interview. Data analysis happened through theme analysis, resulting in the category: soft technologies in the hospital care and two sub-themes: reception in care setting and means of communication as a care form. The data showed predominance of soft technologies in the care given by the nursing team; however, some situations portray technical and mechanical actions in nursing interventions. The conclusion is that the integration of soft and hard technologies provided qualified assistance to the hospitalized patient and their family
