Aim: This study aimed to understand the perception of the family of newborn hospitalised in relation to the care provided by the health team. Method: qualitative descriptive study, which used as theoretical background the Patient and Family Centered Care Model. Data collection was conducted through semi-structured interviews with seven family members of newborns admitted in a neonatal unit of a University Hospital in 2011. Results: The data were analysed according to Qualitative Content Analysis, from which emerged two analytical categories: Satisfaction with the care in the unit and difficulties faced in relation to the staff and the hospitalization. Conclusion: there is a gap between theory and practice, and the Patient and Family Centred Care Model is an ideal to be achievedDownloads
