PROFILE OF POTENTIAL DONORS BY THE EFFECTIVENESS OF DONATION

Abstract

Aim: to describe the profile of potential donor organs and tissues for transplantation according to the effectiveness of the donation. Method: transversal and quantitative study conducted in six hospitals in Natal/RN, between August 2010 and February 2011, with 65 potential donors. Results: among the potential donors, there was a predominance of non-donors (72,3%), male (50,8%), age group 45 years (53,8%), with basic education (60,0%), mulatto (61,5%), single/widowed/divorced (56,9%), with profession (86,2%), family income of up to three minimum wages (81,5%) and resident in the metropolitan area (52,3%). Admitted in public hospitals (86,2%) in the intensive care unit (64,6%), diagnosis of stroke (50,8%) and with preexistent diseases prevailed hypertension (83,1%). Most families unaware their desire regarding donation (36,9%). Conclusion: the knowledge that profile will ensure greater involvement between professionals and family with reflexes on quality of care and the number of donations.
