REGET, V. 23, 2019, SPECIAL EDITION: 4th SYMPOSIUM ON SUSTAINABLE SYSTEMS

The Symposium on Sustainable Systems is promoted every two years with the purpose of permitting the exchange of experience and knowledge among undergraduate and graduate students from higher education institutions (public and private ones), besides teachers, professionals, municipal and state public power and researchers from all over Brazil, as well as from other Portuguese-speaking countries. The themes addressed during the Symposium are related to environmental sustainability, mainly applied to Hydrographic Basins. The best articles of the Event were selected by Internal and External Committees to compose this Special Edition. In the meantime, during the 4th Symposium on Sustainable Systems, held in May 2018, in Porto Alegre / RS, the topics covered in the oral and poster technical sessions were: River basins and natural resources management; Water resources and water quality; Erosive processes and control of gullies; Master plans and prevention of slope slides and dam ruptures; Sustainable systems and practical application;Recovery of degraded areas; Systems of treatment of liquid effluents and innovation; Systems and techniques for treatment and disposal of solid waste; Reuse of solid waste to generate new products and materials; Renewable energy sources and new possibilities of application; Climate changes; Urban mobility and reduction of local air pollution; Management techniques and environmental management applied to municipalities and states; Public policies, legislation and environment.
