The objective of this article is to discuss the challenges faced by higher education teachers for the dissemination of scientific production. To encourage the interaction and collaboration of teachers on the subject, the design based research method was used in the modeling of a knowledge management system, based on cognitive design. The results validated Vygotsky's historical-cultural reading, the dialogism proposed by Bakhtin and the interactivity by Rod Sims as theoretical principles of the knowledge management system and revealed that teachers face structural challenges for scientific production, which impact the results presented to society. In short, the study revealed the importance of directing university administration to assist teaching practice, to increase the social impact of scientific production.
