Challenges of school management: a study on five schools in the municipal network of Caucaia/CE

Abstract

This article addresses the challenges of school management with the aim of identifying the main challenges faced by managers in the daily life of the school. The study is characterized as qualitative research, with data collection, carried out through observation, questionnaire and semi-structured interview, with five secretaries and five school managers from the municipal network of Caucaia/CE. The material collected from the interviews was analyzed using content analysis. The results reveal that the biggest challenges perceived by these actors are related to the social and economic problems of students, infrastructure and territoriality. It was found that school management has the support of the community, the education department and existing public policies.

Lucivalda Ferreira Vitoriano, Universidade Estadual do Ceará

Master's student in Education in the Research Line: Training and Educational Policies by the Postgraduate Program (PPGE) of the Education Center (CED) of the State University of Ceará (UECE). Specialist in Portuguese Language: Reading and Text Production at Faculdade do Vale do Jaguaribe (FVJ-2013). Graduated in Pedagogy from Vale do Acaraú State University (UVA-2007). Effective Teacher at the Municipal Education Network of Fortaleza-Ce. He is currently part of the Educational Policy, Management and Learning research group (GPPEGA-UECE) coordinated by Prof. Dr. Sofia Lerche Vieira.

 

Maria de Fátima Bezerra, Universidade Estadual do Ceará

Graduated in Literature. Specialization in Methodology for Elementary and Secondary Education. Specialization in Management and Evaluation of Public Education. Master's student in Education, research line in Educational and School Management. Research Project entitled "School management facing the challenges of Youth and Adult Education in the municipal network of Fortaleza". (Professor advisor Dr. Sofia Lerche Vieira). Municipal and State public servant, belonging to the permanent staff of the Municipal Department of Education (SME/Fortaleza, teacher) and the State of Ceará, (SEDUC/Ce, teacher), currently in the role of manager.

Sofia Lerche Vieira, Universidade Estadual do Ceará

Graduated in Literature (UnB). Master in Education (UFC). PhD in Philosophy and History of Education (PUC/SP), with Post-Doctorate from the Universidad Nacional de Educacion a Distancia (UNEd), Spain. Professor Emeritus at the State University of Ceará (UECE), where she works in the Postgraduate Program in Education (PPGE). Senior Productivity Scholarship (PQ-Sr) from the National Council for Scientific and Technological Development (CNPq). Researcher at the Center for the Development of Public Management and Educational Policies (DGPE) at Fundação Getulio Vargas (FGV). Leader of the Educational Policy, Management and Learning Research Group (GPPEGA), of the CNPq Research Group Directory. She taught at the Federal University of Ceará, where she is a retired full professor, at the University of International Integration of Afro-Brazilian Lusofonia (UNILAB), where she was a fellow of the Senior National Visiting Professor Program (PVNS) of CAPES and at Universidade Nove de Julho (UNINOVE), where he worked in the Postgraduate Program in Education (PPGE). She was a visiting professor at the Lemann Center, Stanford University. He was a member of the CNPq Education Advisory Committee, where he coordinated several research projects. He carried out studies and research for national organizations (Instituto UNIBANCO, CENPEC, Instituto Votorantim and Fundação Brava) and international organizations (UNESCO, World Bank and Inter-American Development Bank). His academic career records 84 articles, 133 book chapters, books and/or book organization and 70 orientations (Scientific Initiation, Master's and Doctorate). In public management, she held the position of secretary of education for the state of Ceará. Writes about basic education policy and management. Contributes to scientific dissemination in monthly journalistic articles (O POVO). Member of the D3E Assembly (Data for a Democratic Debate in Education). Featured in the Latin American Top 100 Education Scientists index of 2022, with 3,575 citations on Google Scholar, in addition to the publication of books and articles.
