Abstract

French fictional narratives circulated in Brazil since the mid-eighteenth century. In Portuguese translations or in its original language, French books of fiction were imported by Rio de Janeiro’s booksellers. After the arrival of D. João and his Court and the establishment of the Royal Press, some narratives were printed in the city, translated. They are extensive Novels or moral tales with a few pages, which won the appreciation of the public and remained in the imagination of readers. We will comment on some French fictional narratives, printed in Brazil and announced by booksellers in the newspapers, between 1810 and 1822.
