Abstract

During a lecture delivered in the Brazilian Academy of Letters, on June 2009, in the commemorative year of France in Brazil, the author stresses emblematic moments regarding the history of the Franco-Brazilian cultural bonds of affection. To do so, the concept of “history of long duration’, by Fernand Braudel, is brought to light. Its major attempt is to demobilize the theoretical arsenal practised by the Anthropophagic theory in order to understand the relations between the cultures of the New World and those of Europe under a less hostile perspective.
