Abstract

This article deals with the problem of tyranny in the work of Leo Strauss. Based on his text On Tyranny, we seek to show that it is a central concept in his work, which helps to understand essential points of his mature work. To demonstrate our hypothesis, we seek to explore two paths. First, we compare the arguments presented in the text mentioned above with the content of Xenophon's Hieron. In this first step, we highlight the way in which the author conducted his analysis of the writing of Antiquity. In a second step, we analyze Strauss's debate with his interpreters, in particular with Alexandre Kojève.
