Abstract

This text focuses on Jonathan Culler’s approach to “Theory” as “heterogeneous genre”,in order to contrast the stabilizing gesture at stake therein with the “effect of deconstruction”(Derrida) inherent to a historiography that, reversing the normalized discourse of the theoriesand methodologies of literary study, identifies itself with the reconstitution not of the past ofcriticism, but of its future possibility.
