Abstract

The extension program “Geotechnologies in Municipal Rural Management” aimed to help improve public management in the municipality of Serra Talhada by implementing geotechnologies. Divided into three projects, the program aimed to map rural roads, use geotechnical tools for water management, and develop a WEBSIG to help manage the rural extension activities carried out by municipal government technicians. The geoprocessing techniques enabled precise identification and geolocation of unpaved roads, providing valuable information for administrative decisions on road maintenance and construction. In water management, it was possible to map drainage networks and springs, helping inform decisions on the use and distribution of water resources in the semi-arid region and guiding the implementation and expansion of social technologies (Plate Cisterns and Sidewalk Cisterns). Developing an application for field data collection and a WEBGIS infrastructure facilitated information synchronization and enhanced transparency in public administration. The program demonstrated the potential of geotechnologies to improve rural management, highlighting the need for additional studies to assess road conditions and for continuous implementation of technologies to update the collected information. It also ensured compliance with the General Personal Data Protection Law (LGPD), guaranteeing the privacy and security of user data.
