Abstract

The purpose of the article was to seek answers about the existence of convergence of income for the Brazilian states the period between 1980 and 2002, it was used for testing β- convergence and σ-convergence. The results suggest that there is a dependency between growth rate of per capita income and its initial value, so that in general the less developed economies grow more than the most developed. Thus, the growth of per capita income would have acted positively to reduce disparities between states, the influence of factors specific inducers or policies directed to this behavior of convergence.
