Abstract

This article analyzes Brazilian political actors termed “Brazilian Waldos,” inspired by Black Mirror, who use ridicule and spectacularization replacing programmatic debate with media performance. It employs an essay-analytical approach using the episode as theoretical framework to examine cases like Tiririca, Marçal, Bolsonaro, and Janones, grounded in Debord, Schopenhauer, and Pariser. Results show TV-digital transition transformed political representation through three strategies: ad hominem, humor as shield, and polarization. With 51.6% of Brazilians getting information from social media and 92.6% exposed to fake news in 2018, individuals who master viral languages gain electoral advantages. Despite lacking an identical case to the episode, elements manifest nationally with politics incorporating spectacular characteristics. Study warns of democratic erosion, filter-bubble fragmentation, and psychological pressure on polarizing personas. Originality connects fiction with real practices, suggesting media education and institutional strengthening as essential for preserving digital democratic deliberation.
