Abstract

This research aims to comprehend an apparently common phenomenon: the dream of many urban habitants of having a house in the countryside. The investigation was applied to readers of the Globo Rural magazine, which is specialised in rural activities. They are subscribed readers who live in São Paulo city and do not have any kind of priority in the countryside. The study aims to learn the movements of this imaginary and to contribute for debates about the connexion between the city and the countryside as well as to understand the interaction between subjects and symbolic cultural products in the current urban life.

Author Biography

Gislene Silva

Professor at the Federal University of Santa Catarina, working in the Journalism course and holds a PhD in Anthropology from the Pontifical Catholic University of São Paulo. She was a reporter for Globo Rural Magazine from 1990 to 2002.
