The article is concerned with the question of the subject within the field of cultural studies. It focuses on two particular paths the reception studies and the debate on cultural identities to develop and elaborate the point. The first path is seen by analysing some audience studies and the second is discussed through Stuart Hall's thought on cultural identities. Tracing the ongoing debates on reception studies and cultural identities what I argue is that these two threads fail to meet one another.
