The article seeks to understand the images of Brazilian folk cultures evoked in the collectible card game Lendas e Batalhas (2019), an independent initiative that aims to enhance the “historical and cultural wealth of Brazil”. Through a content analysis that considered the game manual, the cards text, their illustrations and rules, we searched for the strengths, contradictions and controversies of this adaptation to the ludic universe. In our reading, it was possible to notice that there is a limitation in the understanding of folklore as only linked to the fantastic; that an objective representation of colonial history will intrinsically reinforces Eurocentrism which supports a new colonization of the imaginary and that the structure of the game, whose victory depends on eliminating the opponent's knowledge and taking his story to oblivion, portrays in the playful universe a violence that was factually carried out against traditional people.
Keywords: Card game. Folklore. Colonization.
