One of the challenges in Comunnication is to identify how and who has contributed to construct the area as science. Related to this issue, this paper, part of a wider work that has been in development since 2008, presents an overview of classes entitled “Communication Theories” and conducted (between 2014-2015) at public and private higher level educational institutions located in Northeast Brazil. By means of an analytical descriptive approach, we verified the characteristics of the syllabus in order to find out the main theoretical and methodological frameworks. The results show that the field has not established its boundaries yet, what drives it to seek support from more consolidate perspectives of Human and Social Sciences.Downloads
