Schopenhauer, Wittgenstein and the ethical-normative question

The influence of Wittgenstein's various contacts with Schopenhauer's philosophy is now well known and has been analyzed in numerous works and studies. It is clearly discernible in various passages, both in notes prior to the Tractatus logico-philosophicus and in later reflections and writings. The aim of this article is to offer some indications of the influence of Schopenhauerian philosophy on Wittgenstein's reflections on normative issues and, more specifically, on ethics, decisively with regard to the question of its foundation.
