Immanent metaphysics and «sinn der erde». Remarks about animality in Schopenhauer and Nietzsche

This paper aims at illustrating some aspects of Schopenhauer and Nietzsche’s interpretation of animality by investigating the main meanings of «Thier», from a gnoseological, genealogical, metaphysical, and ethical point of view. Beyond some interpretative differences between Schopenhauer and Nietzsche, the essential answer to the question What does animal mean? seems to be the same, and it represents a hermeneutic consonance according to which the animal mainly symbolizes immanence.
