This essay presents the philosophy of Schopenhauer as „open minded“ in a threefold sense: 1.) as open to different cultures, religions and world views; 2.) as open to sciences and scientific fields; and 3.) as open in systematic respect. It is characteristic of this open mindedness and at the same time problematic that it correlates with a firmly fixed fundamental philosophical conviction. Due to this problematic nature, the third, the systematic point of view is of particular significance since it constitutes the basis for the specific features of the other forms of open mindedness. With regard to the particular combination of systematic unity and openness in Schopenhauer’s philosophy, its methodology is explained by a characterization of the world in its main features from changing perspectives enriching it continuously.
