Halbwachs Beyond the French Sociological School

This article, an updated and expanded version of a paper presented at the XIV Brazilian Congress of Sociology in 2009, aims to reflect on important concepts in the work of Maurice Halbwachs (1877-1945) and their potential uses in anthropological research. Among these concepts is the perspective presented by the author, embedded in the French School of Sociology, on the relationship between the individual and society, its dynamics, and analytical possibilities. Through bibliographical and documentary research, the aim was to understand and present important elements embedded in the author's writings, always challenging and bold, considering the historical and intellectual period in which he published. The main aim is to highlight the richness of this author's work throughout my academic career, especially in my research on the memoirs of descendants of Italian immigrants in Rio Grande do Sul.
