From dramas to other dramas

Taking as a reference the work of William Foote Whyte, Street Corner Society – the social structure of a poor and degraded urban area, in its Appendix A, it is about, in the text on screen, narrating an experience that combines a life experience in a 'strange' city (Rio de Janeiro) with the requirements for the preparation of a doctoral thesis. The unifying term of the two situations – drama – translates the prevailing feeling that guides the narrative. The contact with a different culture, the coexistence in an academic environment characterized by severe competition, and the uncertainties regarding the object to be researched produce significant impacts on particular cognitive exercises necessary to make Social Science. Impossible to disconnect feeling from thinking, a condition for knowing. If feeling is marked by mismatch, reflection becomes agonizing – and the rational construction of an academic work becomes a martyrdom. With these ingredients, it is proposed to align living (experiencing) and creating in the Social Sciences, both dramatic situations.
