“Walking with faith”: Strong saint and contemporary religion in an ethnographic film

The intention of the article is, based on the work “Santo Forte”, a documentary produced by Eduardo Coutinho in 1999, to analyze not only the urban religiosities of Brazil at the end of the 20th century and the beginning of the 21st century, but also the possibilities of subjectivation of religious experiences in a favela territory. To this end, the text is divided into two parts. In the first, a reflection is undertaken that brings the categories of ethnographic films closer to Coutinho's work. In the second part, a theoretical explanation of urban popular religiosities in a favela context will be presented. This analysis is based on the narratives presented in the film. To carry out this work, a complete decoupage of the documentary was carried out, which includes the description of the images and the transcription of the speeches.
