This qualitative interpretative exploratory study identifies 16 facilitating factors and eight restrictive factors for compliance with the policy of succession of administrators instituted by the Central Bank by credit unions. A segment showed rapid growth in the national financial system between 2002 and 2015. Little research discusses the impacts of the president's pre-succession phase on non-profit organizations. Evidence indicates that the succession of managers in credit unions is a central and complex event, but not a critical one. They also show that credit unions have their idiosyncrasies regarding the succession process of senior management. That is, although the contributory factors are very similar to the context of for-profit organizations, most of the restrictive factors are characteristic of cooperatives.Downloads
