Sustainable development (SD) has proven to be an important factor for decision makers in different sectors around the world, since it contributes to improving the quality of life of people, the economic, social and environmental well-being of societies. Therefore, knowing sustainability indicators becomes increasingly important. And in the context of sustainability assessment indicators, cooperatives play an important role in relation to the sustainable development process. This article aims to identify and analyze which indicators are used to assess the sustainability of cooperatives. For that, a systematic literature review was developed. Eight analysis articles were abtained in searches, from four databases, in the period of 2011 and 2020. And it was found the predominance of studies in the economic and social aspects, characteristics of the cooperative principles and that only one of the articles prepared a study considering all pillars, and also with specific sub-indices for the study. It is important to highlight that the studies reinforce that cooperatives contribute to strengthening sustainable development to society, enhancing poverty reduction, job opportunities and concern for future generations.
