<b> Curandeirismo no século XIX: as escolhas do povo <b/>
Abstract
Ao longo do século XIX, o que chamamos de medicina era somente uma entre diversas outras formas de cura. O curandeirismo, ainda sem o caráter pejorativo que o discurso médico vencedor lhe imputou, abarcava em si um sem número de saberes populares e de agentes de cura, filiados às mais diversas tradições e culturas que tinham seu espaço e sua validade junto aos doentes. Através do estudo de fatos ocorridos no município de Santa Maria, no Rio Grande do Sul, entre os anos de 1845 e 1880, pode-se perceber, de forma clara as maneiras como se davam as relações entre a população, as diversas práticas de cura que lhe eram oferecidas e aqueles que exerciam essas práticas.
