Abstract

Aim: to understand the perception of adolescents, who participate in a choral singing, about the use of music as a tool to promote health. Method: a descriptive, exploratory, qualitative study, carried out with eight adolescents, members of a choral singing, in Chapecó-SC. The data collection was developed through the focus group with a script of guiding questions, in the first semester of 2017. The analysis and interpretation of the data were performed through content analysis. Results: adolescents conceptualized health as having healthy eating, sleeping, exercising and reported benefits of participating in choral singing such as relaxation, social integration, decreasing shyness and decreased anxiety. Final considerations: the practice of music, through choral singing, is able to promote health, bringing physical, emotional and social benefits, and regards to nursing the challenge of exploring the path of music in the promotion of adolescent health.

Nurse graduated from the University of Vale do Itajaí (UNIVALI, 1999). Specialization in Family Health Nursing and Specialization in Music Teaching Methodology. Master in Public Health from the Federal University of Santa Catarina (UFSC, 2004). PhD in Sciences from the Federal University of São Paulo (UNIFESP, 2015), postdoctoral in the Graduate Program in Nursing at UFSC. Associate Professor of the Undergraduate Nursing Course at the Federal University of Fronteira Sul - UFFS, coordinating and collaborating research, extension and culture projects. He is deputy leader of the Public Policy and Health Management Research Group (PPGS). She has worked as a UNIVALI teacher, as a conductor of children's and adult choirs, a nurse of the Family Health Strategy and has been a Municipal Secretary of Health. She has experience in Primary Health Care, focusing on Health Promotion, acting mainly in the following themes: health promotion and possibilities to promote health in the experience of cancer, family farming and immigration; music as a strategy to promote health; public administration; education and health; maternity.
