Nursing personnel downsizing at the obstetric center

Aim: to measure and compare theObstetricCenter’s nursing staff to the parameters recommended by the Resolution of the Federal Nursing Council No. 293/2004. Method: descriptive, exploratory and quantitative study carried out at theObstetricCenterof a private hospital inSouthern Brazil. The study object was the functional sites and nursing staff schedule in September 2012. Results: the number of functional sites of nurses and nursing technicians was 21 and 147 respectively, and the calculated number of nurses and nursing technicians was 4 and 25 respectively. Conclusion: there is no statistically significant difference in the number of nurses and nursing technicians who work at theObstetricCenter, when compared to the number calculated through the analysis of functional sites as proposed by the referred resolution above
