Abstract

Objective: to describe the experience of a student nurse as an assistant of research in an Obstetric Center of an University Hospital, in Porto Alegre,RS, Brazil. Method: to describe and reflect the experience that was obtained through naturalistic observation in the collection of the data of qualitative research which has analyzed the use of birth ball during labor. Results: the participation in this study gave us knowledge that we would only have gained after graduation. It also, allowed me to know the routine inside an Obstetric center, all the work that is done during labor, the work that the nurses perform during labor and all the people involved in this context. Conclusion: besides all the routines that have been instituted in this field, obstetric nursing has worked on humanizing it itself, in a way that the experience should serve as a role model, so in the future nurses will offer a more differentiated and more humanized service , and the promotion of women’s safety
