Masculinities and Teaching Philosophy

Primarily this paper aims to construct an introductory discussion about Masculinities issues from the epistemological territory of Philosophy, by joining with some philosophical concepts by Michel Foucault and Simone de Beauvoir. In this sense, the notions of Gender, Sexuality, and Modes of Being-Sexuality are also addressed alongside the Masculinities issues. In its second objective this paper aims to establish an analysis between Masculinities issues and the aforementioned notions into the epistemological territory of Teaching Philosophy, which is a knowledge field that deals with Philosophical Education, the formation of subjectivities according the scope of teaching Philosophy. Therefore, addressing Masculinities, whether in Philosophy, in the Teaching of Philosophy, or in Philosophical Education, is a necessary and urgent task, particularly facing contemporary social demands by questioning and by destroying hegemonic and heteronormative patterns of being and existences, by combating gender violence, by giving visibility and by constructing other ways of being-sexuality.
