Terrorism in fragile states in World Order 2.0: an exploratory study of Sub-Saharan Africa

The article examines the relationship between state fragility and terrorism in Sub-Saharan Africa within the framework of World Order 2.0. Drawing on selected literature and empirical data, the analysis shows that states with limited legal coercive capacity and weak social cohesion are more prone to intrastate conflict and the expansion of terrorist activity. The analysis concludes that the level of institutional fragility is a significant explanatory variable for understanding the persistence and concentration of terrorism in the region. It also finds that progress in state-building emerges as a central condition for mitigating transnational risks and fostering greater regional stability, an issue of relevance for Brazil given its strategic interests on the African continent.
