Política Internacional e o “Outro” Religioso: a Inerência do Laicismo no Orientalismo e o Caso do Irã

O presente texto é composto de uma revisão bibliográfica voltada para a compreensão do papel da religião no discurso orientalista. Analisa-se, em um primeiro momento, como a relação entre Estado, sociedade e religião é atravessada por concepções normativas a respeito da secularização e da laicidade das sociedades modernas e como, na realidade, cada sociedade segue sua própria trajetória sócio-histórica em termos de como se relaciona com a religião. Em um segundo momento, evidencia-se como o componente religioso é utilizado no discurso orientalista para legitimar a política externa do Ocidente, principalmente dos Estados Unidos, para o Irã. Conclui-se que a religião e as dinâmicas a ela associadas é variável de fundamental importância para a compreensão da política internacional contemporânea.
