The climate of Rio Grande do Sul in summer: an analysis of regional atmospheric circulation and the main types of weather succession in three typical cases

The summer, in the Rio Grande do Sul State, Brazil, can be considered as a season in which the disqualification of the atmospheric systems of origin extratropical is a fact. ln this way, these systems start to have different participation in the State, so that the one of intertropical origin can have succession of different kind of weather from other portrayed in other season. ln this way, the general objective of this research was to identify the synoptic and the genesis organization of the main types of weather succession during the summer in regular year-patterns; rainiest and less rainy in the State. A theoretic framework upon the dynamic regional atmosphere was made. Climatic dada from the Meteorological Station of Santa Maria-RS, as well satellite images and synoptic maps for identification of the active atmospheric systems was collected. Selected the year-pattern, the regular summer chosen was 1986-1987; the rainiest was 1997-1998 and as less rainy was the sumrner of 2004-2005. The technique of rhythmic analysis was applied to verify the atmospheric succession condition in Rio Grande do Sul. ln the three analyzed situation, the typical succession condition of weather proved that each of them is provided in five phases, in which each succession of time and phases is peculiar to each summer type.
