Anthropogenic influences on the environment: environmental impacts in the Lagoinha neighborhood, São Gonçalo, Rio de Janeiro (RJ)

Abstract

The work deals with the relations of the man with the environment, in the Lagoinha quarter (São Gonçalo-RJ), of the population pressure and recklessness of the public politics, influencing the environment of negative form, Beyond the occured urban transformations for the disordered growth the population. The caused alterations, that tend "to transform" natural events into catastrophes and to degrade the environment. The main problems that the quarter comes facing, are related to the increase of floods, overflows, and pollution of underground waters. Work approached questions related to overflows caused for workmanships badly planned, floods in river Camarão that which has been under impact for the population growth, polluted with domestic garbage and spill of sewers in natura, that at times of intense rains comes increasing its flow and its level, with passing of the time the increase of the population and the pressure in its extension aggravates such problem still more. Such problems bring risks to the inhabitants of its surroundings, that they try try to minimize the problems with small little efficient workmanships. Survey of socio-environmental questions with field trips were carried through to evidence, with the classification of data for intermediary of interviews and knowledge of the area. The questionnaire focused the sociocultural organization mainly, to identify the profile of the population of the searched place. It was analyzed in order to make a survey of the degree of contamination of the waters that the population is ingesting, analyses of waters of some wells, with the objective to verify if the contamination by fecal coliforms occurs.
