Geografia e Heráldica: Lendo a representação da paisagem nos brasões de armas dos Estados brasileiros

Foi com a Constituição Republicana de 1891 que os Estados brasileiros poderiam ter legalmente uma bandeira, brasão e hino próprio desde que não omitissem os símbolos nacionais. A partir de então, as unidades federativas passaram a ostentar símbolos heráldicos representativos de suas características regionais, onde os aspectos da paisagem aparecem de forma proeminente. Este artigo procura realizar um debate em torno da representação da paisagem, sua imagem e imaginário na construção das identidades territoriais, mostrando como a heráldica revela múltiplas conexões com o espaço geográfico para uma nova perspectiva na análise deste tema junto à geografia histórica e cultural, auxiliando também no ensino e pesquisa.
