Nature as a field of play: the cartography present on a guidance map

Abstract

:  The Sport Orientation is the art of navigating between unknown lands, providing physical activity and contact with nature. Compass and map are important equipment in the game. The navigation can be realized using the majority of types of maps. However, the Orientation’s competition request a specific map faciliting to competitiors to execute a route with quickness, choose the better way. To consider necessities of athlete is important the map to offer clears and corrects informations. The advent of Digital Cartography created differents options to construction of maps. The benefitis of this evolution appear in art of to create Orientation’s map, popularizing this activity. Various are the cartographic documents existing that serve to relieve in production of a Orientation map, such as cadastral plants, aerial photographies and topographic maps. These and other documents of terrain’s reproduction are necessaries in production of Orientation’s maps. The Orienteering competitions are held close to nature, where it is possible to provide an adequate infrastructure for conducting the competition, following the rules of the sport, which are dictated worldwide by the International Orienteering Federation (IOF). This paper proposes to present the sport guidance as a pedagogical tool for education, in particular environmental education. The methodology consisted of literature review, de BALTAZAR (1999), BOGA (1997), FERREIRA (2002), FERREIRA (2004), McNEILL, et al. (2006), PASINI (2004) and PAZ (2003), as a basis for an analysis of the importance of sport for the education teaching, being a tool for the teacher and assisting students in interpretation of maps, which at the same time, developing the body and mind of the student and raises awareness of caring for the environment. The Orienteering was only used in military training; Today the sport out of exclusively military environment and comes to schools at all levels and clubs. As a result, we realize that sport Orienteering, in modern life, it is essential to develop the skills and multiple intelligences, playing an important role as learning to read, write and count, and also as pedagogical action, a strong playful component with the nature.
