Discovering the Quarta Colônia Geopark: an experience report in non-formal spaces with undergraduate students in Social Communication - Advertising at UFSM

Abstract

This work presents a methodological experience of teaching in non-formal spaces, based on a guided visit in the territory of the Fourth Colony UNESCO World Geopark with students from the undergraduate course in Social Communication - Advertising at the Federal University of Santa Maria (UFSM). Audiovisual recordings and briefing were carried out in order to develop an advertising campaign for the Geopark. As results, we carried out a theoretical discussion of the concepts relating to the use of non-formal spaces in teaching practices, we detailed our experience and presented the products and advertising pieces developed by the students.

Author Biographies

Mondini Osorio, Universidade Federal de Santa Maria

Graduated in Advertising Production from the Federal Center of Education, Science and Technology of Amazonas (CEFET-AM), currently the Federal Institute of Education, Science and Technology of Amazonas (IFAM), postgraduate in Strategic Marketing from the University of São Paulo (USP) and Master in Technological Education from the Professional Master's Program in Technological Education (MPET-IFAM). University professor of advertising and marketing, researcher in the area of ​​Communication. Member of the Brazilian Society of Interdisciplinary Studies in Communication (Intercom) and member of the research group "Research on Teaching Resources and Practices" of IFAM.

Juliana Petermann, Federal University of Santa Maria

PhD in Communication Sciences from the University of Vale do Rio dos Sinos (UNISINOS). He has a degree in Social Communication - Advertising from the Federal University of Santa Maria (2003), a master's degree in Applied Linguistics from the Federal University of Santa Maria (2006). She is currently an associate professor in the Department of Communication Sciences at the Federal University of Santa Maria, professor and coordinator of the Postgraduate Program in Communication at the same university. He works mainly on the following topics: advertising creation, teaching advertising creation, creativity, brands and their discourses, meaning strategies, analysis of advertising images. Coordinates the group Nós - Pesquisa Criativa (www.nospesquisacriativa.com). She received the Recognition Trophy from the Riogradense Propaganda Association in 2014. She was chosen as teacher of the year, receiving the Outstanding Teaching Award at the Federal University of Santa Maria in 2017. In 2021, she was included in the list of 30 voices who fought for change the communication industry, organized by the Papel e Peneta collective. In 2022, she received the “Teacher of the Year” trophy, an award from the Associação Riograndense de Propaganda. She is the author of the books Cartografia da Criação Publicitária (2017) and Criação Publicitária - Textos Introdutório (2023) and co-author of the book Criação Publicitária: Desafios no Ensino (2020). Visiting researcher at the Universidad Nacional de la Republica (AUGM, Montevideo, 2023)
