Abstract

This article aims to describe and problematize the experience of higher education students participating in an extension project focused on free play at different ages. The version of the project reported highlights the work of 40 students who, divided into groups, played games in five different public squares in a city in the interior of the state of Mato Grosso over the course of a semester. A sample of the games played is presented. Data on the students’ experience are also presented and analyzed in the following categories: difficulties encountered; changes observed in the children and in themselves; and student testimonies about their overall participation in the project. The results demonstrate the development of the students’ sense of social responsibility through participation in the university extension, and the achievement of the project’s objectives by the children and adolescents.
