PET-Health and interprofessionality in promoting care to patients With Diabetes Mellitus: experience report

Abstract

The 10th edition of the Education through Work for Health Program (PET-Saúde), had the theme “Health Management and Health Care”, with actions aimed at people with Diabetes Mellitus. Therefore, the objective of this work is to report the experiences of a Nursing student in promoting care for patients with diabetes mellitus, as a PET-Saúde fellow, with an emphasis on interprofessionality. This is an experience report of a descriptive and qualitative nature, about the actions developed at PET-Saúde. Two problems were prioritized, namely: Fragile knowledge of patients with Diabetes Mellitus about their health-disease process, and decit in recording and monitoring patients’ glycemic curves. It was found that health education and interprofessional practice are opportune tools for producing knowledge and encouraging behavior change.

Natiane Carvalho Silva, Universidade Estadual de Santa Cruz

Assistant Professor in the Department of Health Sciences at the State University of Santa Cruz. Holds a master's degree in Regional Development and Environment from the Prodema/UESC Network and a specialization in Medical-Surgical Nursing. Has experience in the area of ​​Public Health, with an emphasis on Primary Health Care and Environmental Health, mainly working on the following topics: Health Promotion, Health Surveillance, and Environmental Health.
