Science & Technology Space Project: a decade promoting scientific dissemination

Abstract

The extension project "Science & Technology Space" completed in November 2022 twelve years of activities focused on the dissemination and popularization of science. The project is developed by researchers from two external academic units of the State University of Rio de Janeiro (Polytechnic Institute and Faculty of Technology). In this article, we present a report on the extension activities developed over the last eight years, highlighting the evolution of the project, and the effect generated by the pandemic and its aftermath. Our Science & Technology Space YouTube channel has grown ever since its creation, having accumulated more than 261,000 views of its 386 videos and more than 2,200 subscribers by the end of 2022. In addition, both the material produced and the audience attracted have been diversified in the recent years.

Julio Cesar Guimarães Tedesco, Universidade Estadual do Rio de Janeiro

Graduated in Physics from the State University of Rio de Janeiro, master and doctor in Physics from the State University of Campinas. Professor at the Polytechnic Institute of Rio de Janeiro in Nova Friburgo.

Eduardo Vasquez Corrêa Silva, Universidade Estadual do Rio de Janeiro

Graduated in Physics from the State University of Rio de Janeiro, Master in Physics from the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro and PhD in Physics from the Brazilian Center for Physics Research. He is currently Associate Professor in the Department of Mathematics, Physics and Computing at the Faculty of Technology of the State University of Rio de Janeiro.

Enia Mara de Carvalho, Colégio Euclides da Cunha

Graduated in Agronomy from the University of Tocantins, master and PhD in Agronomy from the Federal University of Lavra, licensed to teach Science and Biology classes at the Centro Universitário de Barra Mansa. She is currently a teacher at Colégio Euclides da Cunha

Germano Amaral Monerat, Universidade Estadual do Rio de Janeiro

Graduated in Physics – Bachelor and Master in Physics from the State University of Rio de Janeiro, PhD in Physics from the Universidade Federal Fluminense. He is currently an Associate Professor at the Polytechnic Institute of Rio de Janiero of the State University of Rio de Janeiro

Ana Cristina Fontes Moreira, Universidade Estadual do Rio de Janeiro

Graduated in Chemical Engineering and PhD in Polymer Science and Technology from the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro. Undergraduate Coordinator of Mechanical Engineering and Computer Engineering at the State University of Rio de Janeiro
