Journal guidelines

The Journal Special Education, edited by the Federal University of Santa Maria, publish only unpublished original papers in the field of Special Education. The Journal happens on a quarterly basis. The first and the second numbers of the year contemplate meet the demand of continuous flow and the third number is organized in form of Thematic Dossier. The editorial board reserves the right not to publish papers by the same author in interstices smaller than two editions. Moreover, the editorial board rejects studies submitted at the same time to other national or international journals, as well as those referred for books or book chapters. The submission and and peer-reviewed process is submitted through the Electronic System for Journal Publishing (Sistema Eletrônico de Editoração de Revista - SEER). After being submitted, the papers are previously evaluated by the Editorial Board: those that are outside of editorial standards will be returned to the authors, the others will be send to the ad hoc referees for review. The identification of authors and institutions should not be included in the text. The approval or refusal of each paper depends of the availability and agility of the Editorial Board and the ad hoc referees.

The authors should note the following specific instructions:

1. The text may be written in Portuguese, Spanish or English.

2. It must be typed in Word or InDesign, in Arial font, size 10, with single spacing. If there are figures, it should come in JPG format; if there are charts or tables, these must be written in Excel or Adobe Table, with the following size: maximum width of 12 cm and maximum height of 16 cm, inserted in appropriate places of the text. Send this file in: transfer of the manuscript (transferência do manuscrito). It must also be sent to the Editorial Board Chairman, via the Electronic System for Journal Publishing (SEER): www.ufsm.br/revistaeducacaoespecial, which will submit it for the judgment of the Editorial Board.

3. The papers should have an extension between 3500-4500 words, excepting the abstracts (in Portuguese and in foreign language) and the references.

4. The name(s) of author(s) must be included through the forms of metadata, in lowercase, carefully fulfilling all the terms requested. Authors should indicate their complete address and e-mail for disclosure of the paper. They should also indicate their higher level degree, institutional affiliation, professional function at the home institution, city, state and country. The metadata item must also include the mailing address and phone numbers. In the URL item, the authors must present the link to the his curriculum vitae.

5. Each paper should be headed by a title in Portuguese, English and Spanish,  followed by an abstract between 150 and 250 words in the same languages (see NBR 6028 of ABNT of November 2003, the Brazilian association of technical standards). The abstract should not be written in the first person and must contain the thematic focus, objectives, methods, results and conclusions. Three keywords in Portuguese, English and Spanish must be indicated. The papers must be unpublished and can be written in Portuguese, Spanish or English.

6. The footnotes should be used for some explanatory information, not exceeding 200 words.

7. The spelling and grammar review is responsibility of the author(s).

8. The recommended number of authors by article is a maximum of five; After the third, the last two authors must declare the function they exercised about the text.

9. The wording, citations and references of the text must be written according to the ABNT - the Brazilian association of technical standards (NBR-6023/August of 2002). Only titles mentioned in the text coukd be included.
